June 24th Update from the Gardens

Greetings from the Gardens,
It’s been another good week, in spite of lots of watering and hoping for rain.  We’ve taken asparagus off the pick list.  The plants need to grow fern tops to feed the roots so that we can again get a crop next year.  We’ll probably give them another good watering to help them out as we used them for a long season of picking.
The snap peas are also past their prime and were tilled under.  There is another row growing up their trellis back in G4 but they are a spring crop liking the cool, so we have no idea if they will do anything.
No new crops have been added.  There are lots of different kinds of cabbages ready for the taking.  The individual leaves make great wrappers for sandwich roll-ups and are great as a a substitute for lettuce in tacos, etc.  Lettuce, another cool weather crop is struggling but many are still good.  Taste as you pick to help you decide.
Tomatoes are finally trellised in G1 and nearly finished in HH2.  It looks like there will be a good crop, if the late blight stays away.  We’ll see.
From the Gardens,
